Kate McNeill is our final Vitrine artist for the year, installing an exposé on the thoughts of visitors in a women's bathroom. Having documented the private thoughts of people in this semi-private/public space, Kate assembled a small selection of quotes which she reproduced by stitching mirrored cotton text into sheets of newspaper. These statements have been mounted on metal boards and hung facing opposite the Vitrine mirrors to allow viewers to read the reflections the right way around. Blue lights and the austere style of Kate's installation both provide that public amenity feeling that somehow inspires people to inscribe their deepest fears and desires for strangers to read.
